COMPASS and the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) have identified State Highway 44 as a priority for corridor preservation due to the high rate of growth in Ada and Canyon Counties. Also, the study will identify an alternate route at the City of Middleton because such opportunities are diminished as the City expands.
The highway is currently a two-lane road; its importance as a regional transportation route, however, will increase due to growth in the region. The road links the cities of Caldwell, Middleton, Star, and Eagle. The study will identify opportunities for multi-modal use of the corridor as well. The study area extends from I-84 in Canyon County to the existing five-lane section near Eagle Road.
